Silver is free and lets you download content but no multiplayer. Gold costs money and lets you play multiplayer. For silver all you need is an internet connection and you have it automatically.
ohh i got you! haha i knew there were those 2 but i didn't know the difference.
so what if you use one of those one month free things?
I'm not sure if that's completely true. I used that free 48 hour thing that comes with Halo 3 but I could only play social matches online. I think that those trials are somewhere in between a silver and gold membership. You can play online but only certain modes. But I'm not totally sure about that.

no the free 1 month memberships work for everything. i had one from when i got the red rings and i could play every game and every mode. back to the 100%. i am still at like 90 because i really dont feel like doing all the jumps and pigeons

The ones you get for free when you get RRoD are the same as the ones they sell in stores. They aren't trials, they're full blown LIVE for a month instead of a year.
I was talking about the trials that come with certain games. Like with Halo 3 you get a 48 hour trial.
edit: 100% in the bag!
