Yeah, the updated trainer seems to be blocking the perk-unlock process.

I figured out that the unlimited laser option is what is blocking progression

Disable/uninstall all AV, firewall and other security software. Right click run as admin on trainer. Load game. Alt+tab back to trainer. Press F1 to activate. Alt+tab back to game and use options.

Warning: this post contains spoilers, but is relevant to the issue at hand.

Just a heads up to everyone, when you get to Spoiler: later in the game, just after you fight (pretty big spoiler)Spoiler: the game will crash out and the save will become unrecoverable, with the error log complaining that all the ammo is set to 999.

So make sure before you hit the button to open the door, that you disable the reload option and fire all your weapons to reset the ammo counts to the default values.

Here's a snippet of the error text for the CH dudes just in case you want it:

WARNING: weaponupgrades/lkw_strobe is singular but count is 999

Multiply that by several hundred times and thats the error log.

Now to play through the level over again (thank heavens for chapter select)
