Well I might be a bit dense, but what features are actually tied to post count?
I have yet to see anything of true value related to post count.
The only thing you get is your name on that stupid leaderboard, which doesn't serve any other purpose than to glorify one's wasted time on posts and topics. Oh and stars too. Ah yes the pretty stars... Useless.
Fact is you don't even have to really write various creative things to get a big post count. You can just write a few game reviews and up your post count in an instant. This is just like appearance pack DLCs in games which add nothing to content and simply serve to aesthetically differentiate those who post and those that don't.
From what I can see here most people just want to protect this system merely because they believe it sets them apart from all the others. That's my opinion and not in any way a fact.
For all I care the system can either stay or go, it doesn't matter. I'm likely to have a nice conversation with either a person with a high post count or a person with a low post count, so the system serves very little purpose to me.
If people want to strut around like pea****s spreading their feathers around, they can do so freely, but make no mistake, a high post count doesn't make you special in any way, especially now that you can get it by writing reviews.
As I said getting rid of this system would not affect me in any way, so it falls ultimately to PWiz and Nev to decide what they want to do with that system. Off-topic is still there, it will never be taken as seriously as General Discussions and honestly I find that a bit sad.
As for the post counts if people can find value in pieces of paper then I don't find it surprising they'd find a value in something so mundane.

If you really wanted to know what the post count meant to everyone then just make them available for purchase ie $10 for 1000 posts and watch the flood of money
These Forums can get boring as it is, post counts at least give people a centive to post and the intellergent posters are still gonna post regaurdless.

If I was going get rid of something I would get rid of the spam boards...I stopped posting and making topics because of the spam board. Then again this was like 3 or 4 years ago.

Making CHU unique is great and all, but removing something that 99,9% (don't quote me on that!) of the forums have won't do any good.
