I've found that I've had a lot more success modding created items as opposed to using the games default items. I've also found that leaving "Unknown" attributes on items seem to cause some difficulty with loading. Removing them and replacing them with your own attributes seems to rectify that beautifully.
now, about the program. it says about lower its durability to identify, i made some items go to 0/20 and still in Unknow name, even crafted items, just appear the name, if i edit. i get an corrupted savegame. (obviously my save has the items not equipped when edited) tried to edit via Hex and same problem.
This has worked for me after playing around with the editor. To no t get a corrupted save file you have to first go to the item and delete all of the starting properties of it before you can add your own. First time I did that with a newly made item I got a corrupted file just like you did but now it works beautifully...Try it out~
