No matter what I tried, I just can't seem to add more effects. Even changing a 4 to 5 will cause the game not to load.
The screenshot posted IdleHands88 shows that the effect number is "00" before the first effect code. For mine, the effect number is "00 00 00" before the first effect code.

Is that what you see too?
remember that idlehands88 and those guys over there are working off of xbox 360 gamesaves not pc gamesaves, so offsets and other things may differ quite a lot.

On the PC, it looks like for example this, with 9 effects on it :
09 00 00 00
And then right after that, the actual 9 effects is listed, like so :
Thanks for the tip. But after editing, when I launch the game, the Save File does not even appear on the Load option.
Only when I change it back to the default no. of effects, the save file appears.
I have no issues with changing the durability of the item though.

i know what you mean. whenever i change the value of the amount of damage effects/component bonuses, it the save file crashes the game. still tinkering with it and see how it goes.

It's quite sad that I am stuck with 2 "custom" options per item I have crafted.
I have no issues changing the effects, just that I want more on each item!!
I think generally this method not working on weapons. It works well on armors. when editing weapon, the effect counter doesnt work that way, if you edit it, your save wont load. there must be another byte sequence controlling the weapon stat and until we find it, you cannot add/remove additional effect on weapons, all you can do is change it.

Yea, I read from cheatengine forum that there is a second code that controls the animation effects, but can't tell where it is.
