When I turned on my PS3, my TV automatically switched over to the input that the PS3 was connected to without me doing anything and the TV displayed "HDMI2 - Sony Playstation 3"
What kind of dark magic is this?

Boring, somewhat logical explanation: Maybe your T.V. has some sort of memory function so it automatically switches... especially if you're on your PS3 a lot.
More interesting explanation: It is possessed by a game gremlin that is actually rather helpful.
