Some model TVs, for the sake of simplicity because of a technologically incoherent society (my dad is a prime example of that in fact), are designed to automatically switch to the HDMI port if it becomes active while the TV is on. Seeing as the only ports on a TV that require power to be recognized are the HDMI/DVI ports, it makes sense.
So no magic or mysticism going on, just technology being designed to be smart because human society is largely dumb.
(And now I run for spoiling the fun discussion of this thread )
I wish my TV did this. It does the opposite - I turn anything on and it switches to a completely random input. I think it has dyslexia.
