We have played them and experienced their horrors. Games that were hyped up so much that when you finally got to play them it felt like someone mugged you and gave you a good kick in the nether regions for good measure.
How about the Omikron (aka The Nomad Soul) - was piped up to be a next gen platform/puzzle/rpg/fps type game. With Davie Bowie doing the music. Wow we all thought.
Game comes out, major /facepalmage... ok it wasn't completely horrible but the game was far too easy and short for my liking. And the end boss was Argghhhhhhhh.
Who was responsible for this, Quantic Dream the creators of the amazing Heavy Rain and the not so crazy Indigo Prophecy aka Farenheit (if you haven't played HR get it for your PS3 now it is amazing).
Then next up was a FPS that promised to be a Duke Nukem/Doom/UT beater.. Tek War... It was based on the sci-fi show by William Shatner so it was all going to be good..
DOHHHHHHH... The characters looked ok, but too flat and was not in 3d models, and the world although sizeable and in 3d the wall textures etc were OUCH.
The people responsible here was Capstone Software, they had released major movie and TV show games pre-1995, infact Tek War was their demise.
Others to come soon, why not post yours... and not just go "Oh Virtua Tennis was crap".. give reasons, developer name etc

Only one springs to mind, though there are others.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
The only thing it had going for it was the sometimes cool bits like flying a crashing starship or attacking a monster while falling through the sky (like Gandalf vs Balrog). Other than that it was short, unimaginative (why no guns or explosives?), lacked decent storyline, and left it open for what will likely be another lame sequel.
Probably will be hated for saying this but Call Of Duty: Black Ops. Just didn't like the game was not for me. Although i never did much care for that type of game.
The FF13 was a letdown at best, as square-enix removed almost all freedom and any sense of a battle system. It was like they wanted to make a really cliched, drawn out, boring movie or something.
GTA 4. Man I hate GTA 4. It was so incredibly hyped up and got such rave reviews that I'm convinced that whoever reviewed that game was bribed immensely. It's realistic to the point of being not fun, and there were so many things about it that just bugged the hell out of me. Saints Row 2 was way better. <_<
This one really makes me think... But,this is what comes to mind.
PC: ONI Horrilbe graphics,no story,Awful voice acting.
X-box:Halo by far...So overrated it's ridiculous.BORING.
PS1: Prince of persia/spawn
PS2: Obscure(i forget the rest of the title)
PS3: The re-boot of the prince of persia games/White knight chronicles
I agree with Oni, it actually looked pretty good going by the cover and back of the case, but playing the game it was absolutely awful, I'm glad I was only borrowing the game from a mate and didn't buy it.

Yeah Shadowrun for me. It was pretty hyped up but I paid $60 for some game that didn't even have a campaign and a small multiplayer. It was ridiculous...wasn't even that good IMO.
I tried to like XII and to be honest, some aspects were great. However, I loathed the combat system and the main character as well.
As for XIII, I was like a rabbit on crack with all the anticipation. Again, a let down. It has a freaking levelling up cap for crying out loud! Bad move on Square's part.
The second Dissidia looks like it'll be equally disappointing...
