If it's a brand new tube filled with toothpaste, I press a little at the top. When half of it is gone, I squeeze at the middle. When there's only a quarter of it left, I squeeze at the bottom all the way to the top.
If its full, I usually squeeze it from the middle, and when its half empty, at the front. Only when it's pretty much empty do I squeeze it from the end.
