There're quite a few instances where you end up losing your savegame files or corrupting them, and winding up with an empty load in the main menu, this has happened to quite a few people, me included, let's just say that power outages are quite a frequent thing where i'm from, so when i checked back in-game i had lost my save game, did some research and this is what i came up with, hope this helps anyone in need :
The game makes TEMP save games, which you can rename and place in you saved game folder. ----Look here for you saved game folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\storage\YmxhY2ttb3Ro\4
----and your temp save folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\storage\temp
Just sort the temp saved games by date and pick the 2 or 3 from the listed top files and rename them in to:
1.save
2.save
and replace your corrupt saved games, but remember the two you pick have to be consecutive ones, ie, one right after the previous one, hope this helps

A recent Uplay update has demolished this fix. Checking the same location there is no folder named storage and the only place where the savegame is located is in the AppData folder, no temps.
Sorry, but this fix is now invalid unless you're successful at not updating Uplay whenever you get on AC2.
