well first off you should be sure you read up on the readme included in the download, usually there is more specific information pertaining to the options of the trainer or how each option actually works. Second if your using the patch #1 trainer you need to be using that version of the game patched up to the very first patch, using older trainers meant for older versions usually won't work. However sometimes they do assuming the patch doesn't change files around, in your case I'd say the patch did and you must use the trainer built for that version.
Other than that, since your using the steam version, MOST games that run with steam usually have a trainer to accompany the steam versions and the retail version

Well the patch #1 didn't crash the game, but the Easy kills only worked once. I tried turning easy kills on/off after they stopped working. No Joy.
my guess would be that the trainer you are using, although it may work correctly in some aspects or stretch but again you said you had the steam version and caliber noted in the download info that the trainer is for the retail, or boxed version, of the game. It conflicts due to the location of the files between the two versions. In any case there isn't much I can do beyond telling you this, I would say you'd probably be out of luck with the option until a steam trainer is released
Okay, has there been any news on a steam trainer?
