Look I know I have brought this up before but I still think this particular function in the game is a bit broken. Case in point on Illlium when I first arrived the map function worked perfectly and then after the Miranda mission on said planet I couldn't get the map function to work.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

The map only works in non-mission areas, like trading hubs and on normandy.

But the whole point is that I am in a nonmission area and the bloody thing does not work!!!!!
