I'm quite sure that dhampy isn't real. Instead, he's an AI application developed by IBM in the early 1980's the Dynamic Hyper Approximation and Mapping of Personality and Yodeling. The Hyper Approximation drive clearly approximated that yodeling isn't very important for an internet based AI, so he ignored it for the most part. Since his creation, he has been learning from various websites and gaming applications. Unfortunately (or fortunately) one of the early sites he came across was an early internet message board based around history.
Dhampy observed these humans and their keen interest in history and it became the core of his foundation, upon which he built the rest of his knowledge base.
He's my favorite internet AI construct, not only because he can pass the Turing test, but because he's quite witty at times.

Nah... if he was made by IBM he would have broken down by now.
Dhampy's got to be one of the most popular, active members the forum's ever seen. Very opinionated, but always has some strong argument to back up his views. He's one of those topic starters that could take a topic about paper versus plastic bags at grocery stores and make it into a classic debate over the environmental and political impact of paper vs plastic. And he'd say why paper would totally win because plastic is made largely using oil, and oil is being depleted faster than trees are being cut down. (or the inverse based on which way he wants to spin it) Very intelligent, very silly and probably the front-runner for the User of the Year award this year.
