The Spartans in the trailer (320 and 259) are new to the Halo universe, they haven't been mentioned in any books. So we don't know where they go once Reach is destroyed or what they do after it is.

Actually at the end of Halo 3 (beat it on Legendary to see the secret ending), Master Chief goes back in time!

So it will be a prequel AND a sequel at the same time!
