I'm playing with the gold edition. For some reason the 'tilde' button or the cheat console won't work ingame. I've used it before but uninstalled it late last year. Re'installed it & nothing happens. Any ideas? I have Vista.
Right click on the shortcut for Rome - Total War. Select properties from the menu that appears. Where it says Target: you should see the location of where the game was installed. That line will end with \RomeTW.exe"
Now you want to add a space and then descr_shortcuts so that the end of the Target line should now read: \RomeTW.exe" descr_shortcuts
Now click Apply down at the bottom and then run the game using the shortcut and your ~ key should now work and you can enter the cheat codes in the game. Use the ~ again to close the box when your done.
And thanks ColeTek for that info, saved me having to search around for that.
I discovered with this game and many others that use the ~ key don't seem to work for me. I have discovered how to correct this through a Fallout 3 forum posting. Go into device manager and uninstall the home infared transmitting device driver. This will allow the console to work. When you restart your computer it will automaticallty reinstall itself on boot up so there is no risk to doing this.
This is a good post and I may be posting in the wrong place but, I am having a slightly different problem. I am running Windows 7, my tilde works fine pulling the console window up but none of the cheats work at all. They are all giving me the not recognized error and then sending me back to the line. I have tied most of them. The add_money one worked once. I have been looking for the answer to this and this is as close as I have gotten. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
