Who were the very first race capable of interstellar travel?

and if we go even further there were only 3 star wars movies (not just a fan saying) while geroge lucas gave his ok on the movies they were not made using any of the original story/director crew from the original trilolgy, as such alot of ppl simple refer to the new trilogy as lucas canon (lucas approved material) and the originals as true cannon
