There are several methods. You can use Window's built-in screen capture tool, but it doesn't work with some applications.
To use the Windows tool, play your game. When you have a shot you want, press the PrtScr button on your keyboard. It should be next to the F12 button. Then, minimize your game and open Paint. Press CTRL+V to paste the image into Paint. Save it as you wish. Note that the Windows PrtScr option can only memorize a single image at a time. Every time you press it, you erase the old image in the memory.
The other option is to use a third-party program. The best of these is Fraps. It lets you map a key to the 'capture screen' option and stores the images on your Hard Drive. You can take as many pictures as you want with it, and you don't need to minimize the game. It can also take videos. However, it IS payware. The trial version is free with no time limit, but screenshots are automatically formatted to .bmp (a file type that is often rather large) and videos are limited to 30 seconds. The full version is expensive: $37.

i use "gadwin printscreen". should be able to easily find it with a web search. its a small download, its free, you can set whatever hotkey you want to use, you can set what folder you want to image saved to, and you can select what file type you want your screen shots to be (bmp, jpg, gif, png, tif). pretty much whatever your computer monitor is showing will be captured in the screen shot.
