They can be used on any slot, even if that slot has a lower class than the weapon you are useing eg nomad class 10 weapons can be used on class 2 slots, which is handy as nomad weapons are very powerful and use zero energy. You can also use normal guns on turret mountins, this is very good if you're useing ships with forward fireing turrets, such as the dagger.
