Medieval 2: Total War Message Board  

I just reloaded Medieval 2 onto my new computer a Dell XPS 410 with Vista Premium home edition, and now I can't get any of the trainers to work anymore. I tried the trainer for the unpatched version and got the error, something made trainer close, and I have been getting this repeatedly no matter which patched version I upgrade and use. Since the patches won't make the trainers work, I conclude it must be something in the Vista windows operating system causing this. Every thing worked fine on the old computer which used XP. All trainers worked with all patches, they were designed for. I hate to stop using Medieval Total War 2 but, I guess I'll have to since I can't get a trainer to work with it. If anyone has a solution for this let me know. I know this game has long been forgotten but I don't mind waiting a bit to get an answer.

trainers should work fine on Vista.. we MADE them on Vista and tested them on Vista. Please don't assume that just because you can't seem to get it to work on your Vista that it doesn't work for anyone on Vista. Go through the troubleshooting guide. Vista holds many more security features than XP and sometimes you must jump through some extra hoops to make things like trainers work with it.

problem i had with vista at first is some games have to run as a administrator, if this is one of those games for you the trainer has to run as a administrator to or it wont find the game and wont work

I'm not sure on administrator. I rented this computer and it lists the store as being the name of the computer. I don't know if I can be Administrator or not even though I am buying the computer through rental payments. It's rather new to me so I don't know much about it or how to do it anyway. AArons may be the administrator and they may not, I don't know. What do I do to find out and try it?

right click the trainer icon and click the option run as administrator, the trainer should start, then try your game and see if the trainer works

if it does you can right click the trainer icon and go to properties under compatibility to make it always run as administrator when you start it

Thanks Vet, I used to claim I knew a lot about computers. But since Vista came along, I feel like a novice again.
