no i think the coreect timeline is 3,1,2, 4 cuz 1and 2 were rnomal series, 3 was a prologue, and four was a continuing. and yes that angelo theory sound better... and also, SPOILER AGAIN DUH.
if u watch dmc history in dmc4 bonus content, u will see after everything dmc 4 logo will appear. like, that happening AFTER these.

agni & rudra still in dante's memory i hope . who know's maybe in dmc5 . return of his brother , dante use it back . i hope
we saw it ourself that the real dark slayer , Vergil is still alive . the he come for revenges and team up with mundus . while dante team up with nero or even a new character(s)

wait when did we see that vergil is alive? yeah we all know that enros devil form is much like nelo angelo, but we dont have much proof.
on dmc3 special edition . the epilouge . when vergil fell on some kind of a place filled with blood . then vergil arise to battle with pince of the darkness . i really sure that vergil will win and return backs .
i think u havnt palyed the first 2 parts, dmc 3 was a prequel to them. vergil fell down to Mundus, the dmeon emperor, and eventually became his slave and transformed in a demon named Nelo Angelo. in the first game dante kills him, and only after that realises that he has murdered his own brother.
