do you really have to tap the fret every time you strum?

If you are strumming the same notes you can just hold down the frets for those notes.

i do hammer ons to play the fast notes and something else to go down on the close and fast notes. it makes it alot easyier then strumming every single note. like on joe perry guitar battle expert i got 86%. thats when hammer ons come in handy. it is all if u like to strum then strum. but if u want to learn it kinda messes up your playing till your real good.
