well...you can rank up by doing the guild hall quests. rewards there are good but the monsters are stronger. so what i did was to do most of the quests in the village chief to familiarize myself with the monsters and weapons and stuff..so there. since your hr 1, don't worry about the weapon attribute and stuff,,get a good raw weapon, if your a long sword user i suggest "shark" or "dragon" (both are in the same path) that will at least get you through until...well, probably 4* or even 5* village quests. then if you have the money and the materials to upgrade em then GO!... hope this helps..if it didn't..just ask again.

You can do the village quests but it wouln't raise your HR. Only comleting GH quests raises your HR.
