The game installs just fine and the sound works great. I can get to the main menu but when I actully try to play the game I get the standered window runtime error and the game closes. I really want to play the game again. Any ideas?
to make this game work on xp you should apply the latest patch which can be found here www.3dgamers.com or search in filefront for patch than you should apply the win xp executable fix which is www.brave.net.nz/shock2_xp_2000_fix.zip than open the cam.cfg file with a text editor and copy the line safe_texture_manager than save file and start the game if you have 2 or more cored cpus than ctrl alt del while in menu and and right click shock2.exe process and click the latest one(forgot that options name ) than untick all cpus except cpu 0(or any cpu you wish but make sure only one cpu executes the game)
this is not the end of solutions but i think it'll work for you if not than post another message
well, i had the same problem and no so-called 'fix' available on the internet worked for me on windows xp sp2. then i tried something different. it seems the game's videos need ligos indeo installed and winxpsp2 do NOT include it. when i installed the video codec, ddfix and the updated no-cd fix (although you still need the original cd after that) the game played nicely. i also noticed that if you run the fixed executable as shock2.exe it crashes randomly after the training missions. instead if you rename it to something else and run it no such problems exist. that's what worked for me, don't know if it'll work for you but try it anyway.. best of luck..
p.s.: if you have ffdshow installed disable it or the game will crash after the main menu..
