When you change the resolution the screen does go black temporaily. That's normal. I'm not a computer wiz but I do know computers run programs in the background. Try closing all running programs,including firewalls and anti-virus programs.

A program will not close because of resolution. If resolution is the case, then it wouldn't even start up in the first place.

Maybe your disc is dirty or scratched. May need to be cleaned. I use a soft cloth and alcohol to clean my discs.

Plain soap is easier and cheaper, always worls for me.

Rubbing alcohol works great for me. Alcohol is cheap,probably cheaper than soap. I poured the alcohol into a spray bottle for cleaning my games,DVDs,and CDs. As for soap,I'd think it would leave a residue.
