Wether the previous settlers sucked or not is all up to a matter of opinion. I myself enjoyed the privious settlers. The game itself is a real time stratagy but it is more of a city building games then a attack and destroy. Infact there are only 5 millitery units in the game! So if you enjoys city building games while turtiling behind a wall and attacking every so often then this is the game for you. But if you prefere dropping bombs and killing millions I suggest you save your money for a game like empire earth 3.
the game kind of grew on me as i was making the trainer for it. i never played the previous games in this series but this one was fun for me. i didn't get deeply involved with the campaign missions though so i cannot tell you about them. You can create massive armies quickly with the trainer if you choose to be more of a military crush them quickly type of gamer-
I played the first game, in face I still have it. It is a nice relaxing game after a day of hacking and slashing and I think they were done great.Why not buy an older used one and try it on?
