I had the insanely fast day/night cycle bug which I fixed by applying the multi-core patch included on the CD.
I also seem to get the same white strobing graphical error narc339 described. It seems to me that it is due to a memory leak as it only seems to happen after the game has been running a while. It also seems to start off when facing in one direction and gradually gets worse (i.e. occurs across a wider range of directions) as time goes on. I think it may also be partially related to the god awful lens flare effect.
Yea I installed that as well BUT for some reaon as I progressed in the game and particularly used the console all of the sudden the fast day/night bug CAME BACK. I believe that its not only a memeory leak but also memory CORRUPTION and video corruption that corrupted some of the game files themselves- possibly even my windows swap file and *possibly* my registry. I had an extensively tweaked out gothic.ini file though, so I will just use two of the main tweaks suggested, play the game with no AF or AA and lower settings(=looks like crap but at least it won't use as much graphics/swap file memory). I get the "Not enough available memory" when of course there is MORE than enough cache available+ram. *sigh*
So I am uninstalling, reinstalling the dual core patch, cleaning up my windows registry, DELETING my swap file (from possible corruption during Gothic 3) and recreating it and I will *sigh* try it again with lower settings and only the "Tree tweak", as I DID love the conplex RPG gameply. IF ONLY the the graphics engine used the Half Life 2 engine like Dark Messiah along with the KILLER fighting system and if only it were not a JoWood supported game. I have also noticed that my registry grew by about 15 MEGS which is a *BAD* sign- time to clean manually.
These are some serious, possibly *dangerous* problems for some systems as I just pointed out what it may have done to my system. No other game in recent memory has done such things. I wonder if it corrupted my graphics drivers as well? I think I will try to play the game in window mode as well, if I can find the setting and see how that works out.
Oh, and god mode is not the same as the infinite health mode with the Buggy ass razor trainer because it seems like the weapons and such don't effect you at all. At least with the trainer you could get knocked down, parry and actually feel like you are fighting. God mode just makes fighting feel extremely fake. At least it did with my system.
So since the day that i accidentally put the night t day cheat in i haven't really played, to busy i guess. So today i was bored n decided to hit it up again, low and behold i had a problem...well i cant even play it now, it gets me past all the first videos IE: nVIDA and such but then it just closes the game, i guess my only chance now is to uninstall, i hope i don't have to lose my saved game....that was a good amount of time =( any ideas on how to fix this?
Not surprised at all. Adding the 0 on the Tree ini setting is important - its the one good tweak for all. However it looks like you have a corrupted savegame now. The "Gothic Assistant" I just submitted (found it at the Jowood Forums) has a function that automatically backs up TWO copies of your Quicksaves everytime you quicksave in the game and restores them when you go back to play- but once the corruption is there... I ALSO just submitted my "Gothic III Cheat FAQ 1.1" in which I describe how to FIX the graphical corruption in the console - read my new thread.
Btw, The Gothic Assistant has two sections and one of them is a tweak section that has practically every tweak listed by users in JowWoods technical support forums- LOTS of tweaks and it automagically finds the ini and applies the tweaks (and has a fuction to back up the old inis first).- included in the tweaks on the app is a DISABLE SUN FLARES and IT WORKS I would tweak first, then check the test mode as each time you tweak using the app it probably just overwrites the ini(s)? Anyway its a killer tweak app.
DO NOT USE RAZORS TRAINER. PERIOD. Get my cheatfaq that I just submitted when he makes its available in the cheats section and read all the goodies I included once I fixed the console and got into the edit function. Cool stuff. I noticed Mr.Helper had a LOT more options once the console was fixed as well. Btw, some people who don't have the console fixed MAY still be missing some of the commands with Mr. Helper due to the fact that the console does not unpack unproperly from the pak files.. Just get my Faq
As to your problem: Add the extra 0 to the treecache, make sure bloom is ON as it seems to be one reason for the flashes of white/black. NEVER touch F6 or F7 and its easy to do as F5 is the quicksave button. It sounds like your savegame got corrupted. Mine did and apparently a ew other files. I cleaned up (uninstalled the game) then uninstalled dual core optomizer/reinstalled and did the tree tweak, and set cache in game to medium and INCREASED my windows swap file to 3000MB. Its very important to have a large swap file for this game as it STREAMS the areas from the hard drive from the windows swap file. Can you believe that stupid crap? I would rather just have it load different areas, oh and use the half life 2 engine also :P
I would DELETE my swap file if I were you and recreate it, delete the old savegames and ini folders, uninstall the game reinstall it, fix the console as decribed in my FAQ. And use the Gothic Assistant with regular quicksaves and normal saves. In my faq is everything you need- Fixing the console, Gold, Learning points, learning how to use the editor. And other fun things. Hopefully the Gothic Assistant (as well as my cheatfaq) will be up in the cheats section today. I would like some feedback on the FAQ (if the tutorial is any good, any other tutorials you guys may find out- things to do with the editor I can add, etc.) In the THREAD I CREATED as this one is getting rather long. And if there are enough cheats you guys can find once you get into the editor functions I can add it to the faq (and give you credit for the extra stuff you discover using the editor) and release a 1.2 version. But with a game this damn buggy.. SHEESH!
