could someone please give me some tips on how to find the shack and boss cave in great glacier thank you

I guess you mean at the foot of mount Gaia, if you wander around the Glacier for a while Cloud will eventually faint and wake up in the shack.
If you want to find the Alexander materia you need to touch the hot springs ( in the middle of the glacier) and head east in the last place you can put poles (from the cave in the middle).
