    Hey fellow cheaters,

I tried to launch Aurora today, and it just won't load. The Linux launcher works fine, but when it tries to execute the Windows application it just freezes somewhere between a black square and getting to the main menu (where there's usually a dismissible error about HTML rendering) where the desktop rendering engine will crash (as will Steam), and Aurora becomes impossible to interact with. These lines are printed to the system log via journalctl I think are relevent:

I have tried a game that worked fine in the past with Aura/Launcher (Saints Row 2023) and an application that should be lightweight enough to take the game itself out as the varible (Crocotile 3D). I've tried the oldest, newest stable, and unstable Proton, Several variants of GE, I even tried running it directly from syswine 9.7 and putting it in Bottles and trying it under several newer Soda and Caffe variants of Wine/Proton. I've also tried swapping between X11 and Wayland compositors.

I had some success by downloading an older version of Aurora from MajorGeeks (1.9.9), in which it loaded correctly before automatically updating and crashing again. This and it working quite well in the past has me thinking that something in the recent update just doesn't play well with Wine.

Here's an lshw -short output in case you need it.

I downloaded every version of Proton in the tools section, and tried them all. They all seem to fail.

I just retested 9.X beta as well as 7, and the window appeared for a moment before two notifications appeared: "Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset" and "Xwayland has crashed"

I also wanted to retest because... My graphics card died like 3 hours after I made this post and I wanted to make sure the issue persisted on my iGPU. It does seem to crash the same way, so hopefully unrelated

Proton 9.x is known for causing issues with Aurora. Proton 7 as well. Proton 8 however is stable. Then there are also system OS updates which can cause this problem. Or other modifications (if you did any).

I just tested Aurora on my SD with Proton 8 and everything works fine. And there aren't any other reports about your problem so far. So it must be something on your end.

    - Try Proton 8
    - If you have Aurora installed on SD card please move it to your system drive
    - If nothing helps and you can backup all your data I would suggest doing a factory reset
