So when I use the aurora launcher on steam deck to play hogwarts legacy, it seems to make the game return to first time play mode. It doesn’t go into the main screen but instead launches into settings and then character creator. I was worried that I lost my game saves but luckily I was able to load the game without aurora and my old saves were there. When trying to launch with aurora again, it did the same thing and start the game as if it was brand new.

I know that aurora was working fine when I used to use steam tinker launch. But I cannot figure out why it would be starting over when I use the aurora launcher. Especially when it returns to old saves when I stop using aurora launcher. Can someone help?

is it just Hogwarts legacy that has the problem? have you tried loading the game before using Aurora? did you have the game/steam download the saves before using Aurora? did you launch the game from Aurora or from steam? did you have steam open before you launched the game?

Take note that this is on steam deck with the new steam deck launcher for aurora. It launches aurora and the game at the same time in steam os. As far as I know, there isn’t a way to launch aurora AFTER the game has already been launched. If there is, I’m open to instruction.

I have tested a few other games like miles morales and baulders gate. They work fine with the launcher.

Hogwarts Legacy savegames are stored in (on Windows): c:\Users\_your username_\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames\

On Steamdeck there is no C:\ so Proton writes it to:
    .local/share/steam/steamapps/compatdata/_steam game id_/pfx/drive_C/

In case of Hogwarts Legacy it should be:
    .local/share/steam/steamapps/compatdata/990080/pfx/drive_C/Users/.../AppData/Local/Hogwarts Legacy/Saved/SaveGames/

Can you confirm that this folder exist and it has your savegames in it?

I can confirm that the folder exists and has saved in it.

I’d like to reiterate, when I start the game without the launcher for aurora, the game loads with the saves I had from before. As extra information, I played the game through part of the tutorial until an auto save, quit and reloaded the game with the launcher and only the new auto save was there and not the previous saves.

However, again, when I loaded the game without the aurora launcher, the previous saves were there again. So it seems to me that there is something in the code that is causing the game to either not be able to read the saves, or makes it think that the game is being played for the first time.

Ok I have a new update while troubleshooting. I tried to just do a fresh install of the game and it would appear that the game files may be corrupted and unable to load. So I will be giving up and deleting old corrupt save files and just starting anew.

Thanks to everyone that tried to help. Sorry if someone else experiences this and is disappointed with no resolution.

I am having the same issue specifically with Hogwarts Legacy and Aurora SD Tool. Launching without the SD tool works fine but then I can't use Aurora. Really sucks and I hope a fix for this is availed soon, seems lke a game specific issue.

I will take a closer look at this. In the meantime you can try and select a different proton version in our SD tool game config and see if that helps.
