You can use the offline mode with an offline key if you got one. There is no other way
It would certainly be a useful diagnostic tool, from my perspective, to have "tick box" to enable or disable automatic updates. It would allow me to utilise a previous version of Aurora to check if that's causing the problem I'm having or not.
Unfortunately, not being a premium plus member knocks the offline key out of the question. Whilst it is a small amount monthly, being in the UK, I would then have currency conversion charges, and transaction fees to add on to the amount which adds up. I don't work due to health reasons, so that small amount is quite a lot in that context!

Sorry, but we don't allow a checkbox for auto-updates because we want it to update for security/privacy/other reasons when one is pushed out, especially for hotfix updates like 1.5.0 which fixed a bug in the mobile app code in 1.4.9.
I understand about the L+ payment of $4.95/month adding up to a lot. But you can also purchase a pack of 2 keys for $6 over at our online store. Unless you change your hardware often, one key would likely last you a very long time.
