TLDR; Will CoSMOS ever get a remote type function that Aurora has so mobile phones can interface with the application making the software feel less clunky on devices like the deck?

    -----
So I have a question I haven't been able to locate an answer for on the boards. What is the likely chance of CoSMOS getting a remote option like Aurora and don't misunderstand me I LOVE Aurora use it every single day. However one HUGE annoying issue I have been faced with is I have found myself using my Steam Deck a LOT while on the go and I miss being able to modify games.

Now while I have used CoSMOS on the deck it still feels extra bulky working with it and just overall not great and to be frank based on the responses it feels like the crew here doesn't seem to have an interest in really trying to bring Aurora over to the deck world any time soon. In general when I see anyone commenting on the threads its always the decks trash I rather my Neo any day.

While i can totally respect that I have never found much interest in the Neo and I doubt I will. That being said something that might help CoSMOS in the Deck world would be some sort of remote function like Aurora has that way we can use our phone and a hotspot to search and modify values without having to leave the game.

I already find it annoying how it must run in desktop mode but that can't really be helped and I get that but then I need to hook up a mouse and keyboard to really make quick use of CoSMOS and it just feels lacking.. Thanks for the read!

About mobile, we've been thinking about adding Cosmos support to the existing mobile app but that would be "Cosmos within Aurora" support, rather than "Standalone cosmos" support. We haven't thought about making a second mobile app for standalone cosmos yet.

As to the rest. We understand your point. Our point is that Valve decided to use LINUX (!!) as the OS on Steamdeck. Valve knows that Linux sucks for gaming, this is why they started with Proton trying to emulate Windows games to work with Linux.

We are not trying to get Aurora to work because:

    1. It uses WPF which is a Windows only UI framework
    2. Even if we would switch to a cross platform framework and trust me, this "switch" would require months of work and comes with heavy changes to the whole UI. It cannot access the game process modules when the game is emulated. They are loaded in the memory but without their names. That means trainers would need to be rewritten exclusively for games running on Steamdeck.
    3. You cannot launch Aurora and the game within proton so they see each other
    4. Even if Valve would add an option for this. We would 100% rely on Valve is not ****ing up their Proton emulation with an update. Every new feature we add we must hope that it works.

We would love to see Aurora running on Steamdeck but the Linux / Windows Emulation decision from Valve simply makes it almost impossible. There are so many problems to face and all of this could have been avoided if Valve just uses Windows.

And yes, as you said yourself. Its annoying that it must run in desktop mode. But what do you expect? Steam just launches in a customized big picture mode on this device. This device is not meant to be launching anything else than Steam + games. You can easily see this in desktop mode. No support for alt+tab, no proper virtual keyboard, in desktop mode it just sucks. In Steam's big picture mode its fantastic.

    I forgot few points:

    5. Even if Aurora runs within Proton. Then it couldn't see the games which runs natively on Linux and Steam does not download the windows version when a native Linux version exists. That means whether Aurora would be a native app or it would be a proton emulated app, in both cases it wouldn't work on all games you can run on Steamdeck.
    6. Any possible solution must be easy to use. If it takes a 1,000 pages long HOWTO just to get it working, then its not acceptable. Because it will annoy most users.
    7. Hotkeys... how do you want to control the trainer? Like you said yourself switching to desktop mode is annoying. Using the mobile app doesn't work if you are not within a local network. The gamebar overlay is only available on Windows. Whats left is the ingame overlay which uses DirectX so it must run within Proton. Same problems as Aurora, doesn't work on native games etc.pp.

Issue over issue over issue to solve. That's why we rejected it and not because we dislike the device itself (which we don't by the way).

Yeah... Sadly you make an amazingly strong argument and I have saw a lot of the issues that plague making aurora work on the deck. Clearly any real level of trainer access on the deck is a pipe dream at best. I can really accept that and the only work around would be to install or side load windows.

That all being said you guys have managed to make CoSMOS work on the deck which I have used a few times. To be frank anything is really better than nothing I would love trainers or Aurora on the deck its such an amazing program. However that being said its a dream at the very least.

What might be a solid middle ground is adding a local network control to the linux build of CoSMOS for deck. I can't speak for a lot of others but personally if I am on the go I am using hotspot on my phone for my deck's internet or most of the time when I am at home I use the same WIFI for my deck and phone.

It would be nice to have some level of heavy lifting taken away from the deck when using CoSMOS so I can just pause the game load up my remote control for CoSMOS hunt down the value I am looking for or run whatever script then just go right back to the game.

As it stands CoSMOS on the deck feels very rough to use almost more of a pain than its worth and while I know it will improve this is just to bust something out for the die hard people that want anything right now. I feel like a mobile remote might be the best way to go only because any other option you are relying on steam to make integration better or some sort of side loaded plugin.

All of this was more of a thought and I don't know how far out of the scope it would be for an option but I haven't seen anyone bring it up so I figured hey if I am at the pool might as well dip my feet and see if I get yelled at by the lifeguard.
