This error can also occur if your GPU driver resets itself which is noticeably by a black screen which lasts a bit longer. If that happens during alt+tab you may not notice it as there is usually a black screen.
I doubt that it happens with 1.4.0 as there is no change in the code that would cause it. Maybe a (silent) graphic card driver update? Maybe a (silent) Windows update? You can try running the game in borderless window mode and see if that helps. Also you say "HW acceleration is NOW disabled", does that mean it was enabled while the crash occur? Does the crash still again when its disabled? (You must restart Aurora after changing HW acceleration)
As for alt+tab you may try the Gamebar overlay we have. You can toggle options on/off in the game without alt+tab, as well as editing values.

I just tested it, borderless will work just fine.
I just felt strange since I've been playing this game and it just happened after the update.

We appreciate and value your feedback. You might consider joining the Preview Channel so that you get beta versions of the updates to test them out before we release to everyone. That would be the most helpful.
It's in the Aurora settings. There is a box to check to get preview builds.
