    Was it maybe like $39.95?

For 1999? I doubt, in this century only few people even had internet and paying for a membership? This must have been the devil. I agree and bet that no lifetime membership existed. Otherwise I would say $5.

If I remember correctly Lifetime was introduced somewhere between 2007-2008 when Cal joined the team..
And I think it was 19.99$

This goes back further than my memory is reliable. I was a Co-Sysop on a medium large 6 node dial-up BBS called PC-Help! BBS. We only had internet for news groups and services like UseNet and one other I can't recall now.

Heh, yeah, this is probably Wiz gettin' tricky with us. Eli sounds about right with the $19.99. 😏 🙄

Think t'was a big zero...as no lifetime existed before CH was born 🤡

....and we have a winner! The answer is ZERO because the site had not launched at that time. For guessing correctly, you win *10* free LIFETIME memberships! You can pass them out however you see fit, or you may also turn them into TWO YEARS of free LIFETIME PLUS for 10 people. Congrats!

Also, @Sniper --- very clever comment and you also win *5* free LIFETIME memberships or the same above conversion.

That's 15 free LIFETIME memberships on the house. But who will be the lucky recipients?

BONUS QUESTION -- Giving 5 more LIFETIME memberships to the first person (besides the two winners above) that can tell me the day and year that CH was launched?

Just for giggles, from looking at the message boards, the first mention of an “unlimited” option was in 2005 and the mention of lifetime option was in 2007 for $29.95.

PWiz sparks another good question for me at least: How was CheatHappens hosted in Jan 01, 2001 and what method of connection did it have?

Back in 1995, Sprint completed the first east coast/west coast SONET ring connecting the two. Connections to ISP(s) via a telco T1 were popular for businesses and if you had the bucks, have an ATM connection over fibre.

As Jaks mentioned, BBS(s) were popular and if subscribed to a service provider, get an email mailbox, Golpher and FTP services, an access to (beloved) USENET. For me, ’96 was the real birth of www when Netscape and HTML became popular as I remember it.

Broadband and/or DSL started to hit around 2004, but for the majority, dail-up was the cheapest consumer option available.

So, I’m curious PWiz, how did CH start if you wouldn't mind elaborating? Build your own server and get a channel or so off a T1 with a public IP?

😎 Yeah! After winning with Aurora and now being able to give a wide smile to ten (10) new Cheat Happens family members, I feel like a wizard (without the legendary P) who with a twinkle of the magic wand can illuminate the face of some PC gamers.
