Before editing copy the text from the original then when on the editing process select all and paste, no more coding to remove.
I do it the same way, Marc.
Copy the text from the POSTED message, then hit EDIT, clear the Edit box and paste in the copied text from the post. Then make your adds and corrections without a problem. You may have to remove the quote you're replying to, or adjust the wording to suit. I usually remove it and start my reply with just @ Member Name.
Been doing that for quite some time. Removing the punctuation that way keeps it happy. Otherwise, editing replies is often impossible as the security keeps failing it.

it usually adds alot of <.br> and <.p> codes to the edit. (without the periods)

It always adds a P or a BR here and there. He talks about weird things between ALL words.
