So I used to have McAfee on my PC a few months ago McAfee had introduced so many extra so called security measures for the 2nd time in all the years I have been a member of CHU I had Trainer issues, so on that I uninstalled McAfee since then I have had no Trainer problems, now what we have is the same for Norton and McAfee have gone daft and over the top for everyday users (Not Businesses) like myself and now I do not use any of the branded names.

I take great care where I visit on the net and up to now all is well, I can hear voices saying you will be sorry, well apart from saving money as well as keeping my PC in a clean and tip top working order it suits me to carry on like I am if anything DASTARDLY happens then I will update you all, so I can say with ease get rid of your McAfee and Norton and save yourself some cash and aggravation as well. 😀

I started out many years ago using Norton AVs and Norton Systemworks
Within the past 4 years or so Norton has gotten a lot better with their AVs, especially in the realm of resource usage.

While I cant comment on these alleged vulnerabilities They aren't the same crappy AV they used to be

I've used Norton on my computers/laptop for about 15 years. I forget why I first bought it and no doubt there are excellent cheaper (or free) AV programs available. But 15+ years of no security issues is good enough for me. I wouldn't change to another AV.

For 15 years you haven't been within the target parameters for hackers. Avoidance is the single best prevention. Don't loiter in target rich environs. That's good. Not everyone does that.

Symantec does a great job for their corporate customers. I'm sure if anyone wants to spend the same as a corporate IT environ, then Symantec would be right there front and center. Only thing is, a private individual doesn't spend that much for AV, and the Norton leg of Symantec doesn't have the same resources the corporate support arm of the company enjoys. Not to mention that the types of attacks corporations undergo is hardly representative of the consumer environment. I'm also not so inclined to attribute the consumer group with the accolades earned by the corporate support teams.

You can't jump into your Jetta and expect anyone to think your cruising around in a Porsche. Same company. Different products.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world. Those that can read binary and those that can't.
