I recently downloaded a trainer for Need for Speed Shift, but I've been unable to even try it because it crashes right as it starts. Windows says "Need for Speed Shift Trainer has stopped working" "A program has caused the program to stop working correctly..." I have uninstalled Avast and disabled McAfee, still no change. I'm running Windows 8, 64 bit

That trainer is not designed for Windows 8 / Internet Explorer 10. You will need to rollback to a supported version Note: if you update IE to version 10 or higher, you will see the same crashes due to the fundamental change made that breaks the authentication process.
You can see the supported OSes on the downloads page: Link
