And I still believe the best comparison to the 780ti will come with the release of the 980ti.

But for right now, does it make sense to dump your 780xx in favor of a 980? Probably not so much. But if you need a new top end card for a system and can get either a leftover 780xx or a 980, it's the 980 hands down.

Then there are those of us who are still getting good use out of their 660ti. I do not plan on upgrading for at least another year or so. This will be about the time I will be ready to build a new system.

The reason I tell people not to buy a 980 right now is because performance is close to the 780, that is because not many titles actually support the newer architecture of the 980. But once they do the 980 will leap forward, and by that time the price for it will come down.

There is no scam or whatever from Nvidia, it is a great card with next gen tessellation etc

Today I sold my gtx780-ti 50$ less than it costs(got really lucky) and I think I'll use the money with some extra to buy a new x99 premium mobo with the 5820k cpu and some nice ddr4 quads.
Gpu wise I guess I'll wait for a card that will actually be a proper upgrade to my old gtx770, maybe the 980-ti or 990 dual gpu, who knows what Nvidia will crap out next...
