The Wire is my personal favourite

I'd put Boardwalk Empire, Deadwood and Breaking Bad over The Sopranos also.

Still got to get around to watching Rome. I heard the first series was great but the second was bad because they had to rush everything due to cancellation.

The wire is one of the boring series I ever watched, i've stopped in the middle of the 1st season I couldnt take it anymore, Boardwalk Empire&Breaking Bad are pretty good but to put them over the sopranos I think it's a little pretentious..

It's all really based on personal opinion when it comes down to it. If he enjoyed Boardwalk Empire, Deadwood, and Breaking Bad more than the Sopranos, of course he's going to put them over it. In my mind, it would be more pretentious to place one higher than the other based on a figmented moral obligation brought on by someone else's high opinion of it. Granted, a lot of people loved the Sopranos, but a lot of people hated it too.

Basically, he would be saying that "I love these other shows but I'll say the Sopranos is better (even though I don't mean it) because other people think it's better." That would be a borderline poser statement.

This is why I hate when people say that one show is better than another. Heck, I like a lot of shows that other people greatly dislike but that's just my opinion. I'm not going to say that the shows I like are "better", just that I enjoy them more. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

I dont agree that it's a matter of taste alone, i look at things objectively for instance the script, the acting etc...

But then who decides what is better acting or what makes for a better script? What is the standard that they must meet? Where is the list of criteria that they have to meet?

Again, it's based off of personal opinion regarding good acting, good scripting, and the like. Everyone will have a different idea of it.

Alright then, what makes a person an expert? Regardless of how popular they are, they still have to use personal opinion to make their statements. No one can really make it official, because no one is given that power. If one expert says that one show has the best acting ever and another expert raises his hand and says "Wait, I think this one was better.", who wins?

No matter how you slice it, it really only matters what you enjoy and what you perceive to be the best.

So according to you even "Jersey shore" can be nominated to the best series ever...

I'm sure that it would rank quite highly on some people's lists, and they are most definitely entitled to that opinion. To them, maybe it is the best series ever. Looking at the Top 10 in that like, in my mind, M*A*S*H annihilates all of the other 10 for best written. That is of course, my opinion.

Also, look at Jersey Shore by the numbers. So many people "hated" it but they got the views.

Love it or hate it, they broke records. No, I do not watch Jersey Shore, but I don't judge those who do either.

I do judge people who watch these kind of shows and I'm not afraid to say it, and yes they broke records but only because ignorance is a bliss..

So you're saying that if people watch and enjoy different shows than you do that you judge them as a person? Why? How would it affect you? So basically, your opinion on these shows is absolute?
