Unable to DOWNLOAD steaminstall.msi on General Discussions Message Board - Page 1

I am abroad visiting friends and family and I tried to install steam on an xp system. I spent the whole evening trying to figure out why the system does not let me download the steaminstall.msi (neither the small nor the large version). The downloads start but never finish being blocked somehow at the end. Disabling all accessible security device (AV, firewall, defender,...) didn"t help. In the end, somebody had to mail me a packed version of the installer and it worked but it really bugs me that I couln"t figure this one out.

Have you tried installing it through ninite?

Just select Steam by itself and proceed to download ninite and it'll attempt to do the download and install for you.

Make sure you install all the Visual C++ libraries and Latest .net frameworks.

Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

IIRC, XP didn't like msi's until SP2. Update your windows?
