Check if no trainer is running per task manager or restart your computer and try again. Something on your end is blocking the trainer.

I have the same problem.
Even though I told Norton to ignore execution of the EXE, the problem is that after you press OK, it will trigger another function that runs a tmp file. Apparently Norton doesn't like that but there is no way to tell Norton to chill off.
So the only way to use the trainer properly is to run with admin privileges with AV turned off. (You only need to turn off Auto Protect)

Ask the developers why they added more steam triggers to the game. If you really need instant build, you can also take usage of the built in cheats the game has.

Hah. Without instant build, the game is still no problem for me. :P Slow paced game which means easy for me to think out a strategy.

The easiest instant build is to hit enter and type "aegis" at the beginning of each new map. The trainer is great for unit strength and armour, population size increase and the kill function for destroying buildings is extremely useful too. Though i often need too use the "robin hood" cheat too increase the gold up to 25000 to buy the see all thingy (i forget words and it can take days to remember them again).

I'm aware of all the built-in cheats in the game.

I was just asking why the option was removed.
