Running Windows 7 64-bit, 8GB RAM. Radeon 6970 video, X-Fi sound, and game is running on Steam.
When I start the game and press F1, the trainer activates fine. I used the trainer for months with no real problems, till now. With the newest trainer, when I load a savegame, or start a new game, then press any of the keypad number keys, the trainer says "Activated Deactivated, Activated", then nothing happens. The game does not crash, and I did try Alt-tabbing out then back into the game.

Did you try running the trainer and game on Admin?
They changed the way some of the options work with the new trainer. It was to help prevent crashes I believe, but if you read the forum for the trainer or the instructions that come with it, it tells you what to do.
