I am just wondering what the community thinks of the Wii U so far. Three hundred and fifty bills seems a bit much for me to shell out at this time so I have no first hand knowledge. As opposed to the Wii, they are keeping up with the releases of the high-end graphics demand games, but will it continue? Will it be able to hold water against a PS4 or Next Gen XBox?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Mistakes- Perhaps your sole purpose in life is to serve as an example to others.
The Wii U (like the Wii before it) is not going to care about competing with Microsoft or Sony.
MS and Sony will battle it out for the hardcore console gamer market, while Nintendo will profit off of Nintendo fanboys and the casual gamer market. Any competitions it will have with the Ps3 and Xbox is a purely secondary concern for Nintendo, because that's not who they've been targeting for the past six years.
To me, the "high end" component of the Wii U seems like it's just a fall back plan for when the casual gaming market inevitable implodes in on itself. In which case it won't be that competitive because by the time that happens, Microsoft and Sony will likely have released their new consoles, making the Wii U look obsolete by comparison since the Wii U is only on par with the PS3 and 360 as it is.
tl;dr- Nintendo is hedging their bets here and hoping they don't have to compete with MS and Sony so they can just keep publishing Let's Dance 42 and Wii Sports Resort Beach Frisbee Activity and making pooploads of money.
Nintendo has actually said in a press conference that they aren't trying to compete with Microsoft and Sony, because they know they wont win that race. Instead, like Latios said, they are focusing on the casual gamer. I myself, didn't really like the Wii, but I am excited about what I have seen for the Wii U, and plan on picking one up when I can afford to.
They definitely have some power saving technology that's really good. The Nintendo Wii uses only 18 watts to deliver content. Don't know about the Wii-U

And from what I have seen and heard, the system has some pretty fun games on it as well. They might not be everyones cup of tea, but they certainly appeal to me.
