That sounds pretty cool. I am surprised that we aren't playing as Shepard in this one.
I think he may have misquoted. As far as I've read, you play as Shepard but you get Aria as a squad member for the DLC. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

not really misquoted
this is from that other link
Our informants believe that Aria intends to seek out Commander Shepard for assistance. We are aware of the Commander’s ties to Aria, but are unclear about how deep they run. What we do know is that Aria will be relentless in her fight to take back Omega, and with the Commander at her side, she may very well be unstoppable.
I loved the Mass Effect trilogy. I like the MP from time to time. I've played all 3 games. In ME1 I only played Bring Down the Sky DLC. In ME2 I played all the DLC (not every weap pack, but the playable dlc). But for ME3... I think I'm done. Not out of rage for a bad ending, but because, like BioWare, I think I have finally laid Shepard to rest. It was a well earned rest too. Maybe in a year, when feeling nostalgic I will dust off that part of my hard drive and resurrect Shep and the gang, plug in some freshly bought DLC and relive the last glory days of an old friend, but for now I'm content that the galaxy is saved and Shepard will forever be a hero/heroin for eternity.
