It's for steam only. You could send Caliber/Chris the executable of your retail version and ask them nicely to support this as well. But it's up to them.

Like Caliber said, The Game Uses Different Module Names for Each Version:

    Steam Version :

    OfOrcsAndMen_Steam.exe

    Engine_Steam.dll

    Retail Version :

    OfOrcsAndMen.exe

    Engine.dll

See the Only Difference ? if u r Lucky and all the Module OffSets r the Same for Both Versions all u goto do is :

    Rename ur OfOrcsAndMen.exe To OfOrcsAndMen_Steam.exe

    and ur Engine.dll To Engine_Steam.dll

And Make Sure to Make a Backup of This Files Before u Rename them.

You may go with renaming the EXE, but not the DLL.
The game will search for the DLL and probably won't find it because you renamed it :P

Well, when renaming just the EXE, the trainer indeed finds the game.
But doesn't work. (At least no the character attribute cheats)

I guess there is a need for a separate trainer after all.

I posted the retail (Or digital download but I imagine the only difference is with Steam.) exe there in the third post but it's up to the CH team what versions they support of course, I can always get the Steam version at a Steam store sale later on.
(I am wondering about patches as well, had difficulties with Garshasp and Disciples III and had to buy the Steam versions of both as those were the only ones that got updated by the developers, with Game of Thrones - Cyanide, same developer as with this Of Orcs and Men game - they have provided retail patches but often later than the Steam updates so I'm a bit worried and there are a few issues that could do with some fixing and adjustments, heh.)

(Steam version would be a nice choice but this was far less expensive, that 1 Eur to 1 USD thing with Steam creates quite a price gap, at least here in Sweden and likely many other EU countries, UK seems to be better off at least. )
