Hey guys!
Recently I bought my little sister The Sims 3 Plus Pets along with the Late Night expansion pack for OSX. I have wanted both these games for a while but have wanted to wait until I can buy a Macbook Pro (also OSX). I read that we could install these games games on 2 different computers, but we would have to share the discs, and thats not exactly beneficial. I remembered that with The Sims 2 if you installed an expansion pack you would use that disc rather than the original one, and I was wondering if this applied to The Sims 3 games as well? If it does we could buy two expiation packs at a time and I could install the first then second, and she the second then first.
Any help would be appreciated, and let me know if you guys see any flaws in my plan!

It most likely does. The other way to get around that is to look for the file that actually launches the games, and run that instead of the launcher that the generated shortcut will point to.

For example, My buddy has Fallout 3 for PC, and I installed it, too, and if I open the launcher it asks me to insert the CD, but if I run the file that the Launcher would use to start the game, I don't need a CD to run it.

There are other ways to do it, too. But I don't know the policy of sharing those. You should have no issues doing it the way I suggested, though.

Unfortunately you can't get origin for the Mac at the moment, but when it does get released you can register your cd-keys there and be able to play via the Origin app without the discs (requires you download and install the games via Origin)

So when it does come out you have one MAC on Origin one with the Media.

No set time as of yet.

You could also download some cracked .exe's

They are legal to use because all it does is get rid of the need for the CD. You can get one at gamecopyworld.com

Mods, if this is against the rules, then please tell me. But its not pirating or anything.

Actually, the use of cracked EXE's even with legally purchased games is still a bit of a grey area. As much as DRM sucks, it's especially blurry if you're using it to remove that DRM (requiring a CD to be in the drive is one of the earliest forms of DRM by the way, before some halfwit decided it'd be a great idea to actually write a program that would screw up games for both honest and dishonest gamers).

I wouldn't recommend to someone to do it, but if they came up with it on their own anyway then it's their choice.

For Windows

press Win+R (run)
copy/paste this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3
Enjoy! You should have no need for the CD. That's how I play it, because I don't have a working CD for TS3, and the launcher asks for the CD to be in the drive.

Note: This only works if you didn't choose a custom install location.
If by chance the location doesn't return a value, remove the " (x86)" part
