So I'm stuck on this one... I'm in the manor and it's clear the thing I'm looking for is on the other side of the barred door but I can't get the dang bars off the door! I've tried looking for some lever, I've tried breaking the wood bar with my sword, I've tried burning it with magic, just can't figure this one out. Any tips on this one would be highly appreciated.
I never had to take any bars off of the doors. Are you inside trying to leave? To get in you shoot the thing under the retractable stairs in the back of his house. Then make your way to the basement (maybe the 1st floor... i forget) and there is a hidden back in the wardrobe. From there you just follow the tunnels to his desk. Past that in the tunnel is a escape hole to jump in to the sewers.

If it's the statue, use the contraption outside to get in to the second floor. If you're continuing the quest, there's a hidden door in one of the wardrobes on the ground floor.
