Kill Grelod
Talk to lad
Get note from courier after 24 hours in game.
Goto sleep in a bed (not wait)
Appear in shack with Astrid.

Yep then KILL Astrid like I did in my first play through lol. Na you do not kill her.

From memory sleeping for 1 hour won't always make the Brotherhood kidnap you, there may be a minimum, or you may have to be asleep at a certain time ingame, so sleeping for 24 hours may work.

Save your game before trying this:
If the above doesn't work, you may be able to force the quest to start with this console command (use the ~ key to open the console):

setstage DB02 10

All you have to do is wait for the guy to deliver you the message. If you do not see him within your first day, go do a quest then come back to a city. Wait around for a couple minutes, jump to the next city and repeat. He will be in one of those where he will find you.

Then sleep anyplace for up to several hours, anything less and it won't happen.
