I've tried the skidrow crack but it removes the gfwl part which of course takes out all multiplayer aspects of the game not to mention achievements. If you remove the xlive.dll when you install it, it just crashes on startup. So I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.
I'll try downloading the skidrow release of the game, as far as I know that's taken from the retail copy and see if that works.
heres a question i don't know if anyone here can answer. If lets say my brother buys the retail copy can i install the retail copy and use my d2d key since that is alread linked to my gfwl account and he install the d2d version using the retail key?
Ok, so I tried the skidrow release which should be the retail release and it still crashes... but ironcly the Promo version of the trainer that is used to test to see if the full trainer is compatible with your copy, works perfectly fine.. no crash at all...
So something within the full version of the trainer is at fault.
No, something on your system is at fault. Most likely AV, firewall and other security software interfering with the security template of the protected trainer. It's all in the troubleshooting guide which you have failed to read.

the promo doesn't rely on code injection like most of the other options do. therefore likely something is blocking the trainer from injecting code into the game space.
just as pwizard said.
please notice that if there was a huge problem there would be multiple posts of this not working. something on your computer is 'protecting' you from malicious software whether it is your Antivirus, anti malware, your firewall, etc.
The only other problem is that you have the wrong version of the game.
I'll try installing the game on my Macbook (Have Win7 installed on bootcamp) and see if I run into any issues with it on there... Maybe its something to do with a registry entry. I don't have any firewalls installed except Windows Firewall and your standard windows anti malware programs.. *shrugs*. I'm sorry to be a pain guys... I'm normally not.. I was just really looking forawrd to playing this with the trainer (like I did with Dead Rising 2) and when it didn't work and got shot down on getting a Direct2Drive trainer I was a little peaved.
