Amazon is very conscious of their reputation and therefore sellers that defraud customers don't last very long. With such a cut in price, I'd expect you're looking at a used listing.
New or used, with electronics and whatnot you have the same increased incidence of DOA products that you do with other places to order from. You're more likely to have a dead drive from Newegg or a damaged HDTV from Amazon than the same products from Best Buy. It's the risk you take for the lower price.
So, pay close attention to the individual seller's return policy.
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

External sellers who sell through Amazon often have much reduced prices. An example is a £500 camera I bought years back for only £150.
If it's from Amazon directly then you have no worries. If it's through an external seller just make sure you check their store page and the feedback other buyers have left.

I've bought literally hundreds of items from Amazon.co.uk (I assume .com is the same) and never had a single problem.
Highly recommended.

If the seller is Amazon directly then don;t worry about it. They put so much work into keeping a great reputation that they will bend over backwards to resolve any dispute you might have.
As others have said, if the seller is not amazon but a listing through amazon then it can vary. That being said, amazon will also work really hard to correct/resolve any issues with third party sellers.
I have never had any issues with amazon, except for some lost/stolen items (shippers problem, not amazon's) and that has only happened twice out of over 100 orders I have placed.

Amazon has always been reliable for me, I have bought quite a few items on there, and everything has worked like it should, no complaints here.
