I hate farmville and apps that require going on everyday and spending hours online.
I like being able to stay in touch with family and friends miles away.
I remember when EVERYONE used to play FarmVille, or some badly made alternative. I managed to resist the temptation (not so difficult) but it's kind of annoying when your entire news feed is full of lost chickens. .__.

It's not that I LOVE or HATE it, it's just that I don't mind it, and I wouldn't care if it's no longer available.

Facebook is merely a method of communication. Every single user has control over their privacy settings so they can control who sees what. They also have control over who they add as a friend, who they block, what they post, what pictures they put up, etc. The reason so many people hate facebook is because a lot of the people on it, not because the site itself is bad.
On the other hand, I don't like the site much because of how often they change it around. It is incredibly annoying to go to the site one day and have to re-learn the layout and then go there the next day and it has changed again. IMO, I prefer twitter but that's like comparing apples and oranges.
The thing i hate is all the damn mails about wanting to trade some stuff with farmville fishville and all that crap, never played those things hardly ever go on facebook and keep getting all that crap in my mail.
It's not a substitute to real contact, it's a supplement. You can also use it to organize real gatherings or as happened in Egypt even revolutions. In any case I'm hoping google+ will be to social networking what gmail was to web mail services. When gmail entered the market even users of other services benefited as they struggled to keep up with the googs features.
